Dr. Ahmed Youssif El Tassa

Distinguished Senior Fellow in Sinology, Classic Chinese Philosophy, and Chinese Medicine

12Dr. Ahmed Youssif El Tassa, MD, is one of the world’s leading researchers in Chinese philosophy and Chinese medicine. He has been living in Beijing, China, since 1991. Dr. El Tassa is the first Westerner to hold a Master’s Degree in Chinese Philosophy from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He was formerly trained in medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, naturopathy, psycho-pedagogy, and anthropology in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Italy, Hong Kong, and Netherlands. For twenty-three years, Dr. El Tassa has been a practicing medical doctor, specializing in the psychosomatic approach towards difficult medical cases. After 10 years of research at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and despite its rampant atheism, he successfully defended his thesis about the intrinsic relationship between human body, soul, and spirit, which allowed him to become the first non-Chinese scholar to be granted the title of Professor of Chinese Philosophy by that institution.

His philosophical studies concentrate on medical philosophy, as, for example, his critical examination of the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic (Huangdi Neijing), the most ancient medical treatise available, based upon the philosophical background provided by the Book of Changes (Yijing) . His medical research established a propedeutic method for treating patients according to their physical constitutions and psychological temperaments. Having been based in Beijing for the last 19 years, Dr. Ahmed Youssif El Tassa is the Permanent Delegate in China for the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Acupuncture Medical Societies (FILASMA), comprehending fourteen Latin American and two European countries. His duty as the Permanent Delegate in China for the Ibero-Latin American Federation of Acupuncture Medical Societies is to facilitate the exchange of experiences and expertise between leaders in Chinese Medicine in China and around the world for the sake of improving global health, economic, and social development. He is also the Permanent Delegate in China for the Acupuncture Society of Argentina and the Permanent Delegate in China for the Brazilian Medical College of Acupuncture.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Youssif El Tassa has been focusing on the contemporary medical practice crisis the world has been experiencing over the last 25 years, both in the West and in the East. Together with other scholars, Dr. El Tassa is currently working for better understanding the rationale of different sorts of medical and psychological techniques, which have silently saved millions of people throughout history everywhere in the world.

Dr. El Tassa has authored a few monographs and articles on Chinese Medicine and Chinese Philosophy. Among his scholarly works are The Clinical Importance of the “body-soul-spirit” life model in Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic, a strong argument and method to shift the present healthcare paradigm towards a realistic medical approach of the human being, and the Promising Prospects of Chinese Medical Semiology on Forensic Genetics, a warning and a solution to prevent recent discoveries in genetics from becoming a sort of an accepted mass control tool for a possible universal genetic profiling agenda. Dr. El Tassa also co-authored the first Chinese-Portuguese Glossary of Usual Terms, 2002, China Foreign Language Press, Beijing.
