A famous media critic, founder and publisher of Movieguide and a champion of uplifting Hollywood movies with Christian worldviews has taken on the giants of the industry and inspired filmmakers to produce wholesome, family films – and now he is the honored recipient of the Mordechai in Media Award from Fusion Global.
Ted Baehr, the son of Robert “Tex” Allen, star in Broadway’s “Showboat,” and Evelyn Pierce, an MGM actress, formed the Christian Film & Television Commission ministry and Movieguide: A Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment in 1985.
Now, with 27 years of experience in taking on Hollywood’s film giants, Baehr has been honored with Fusion Global’s Mordechai in Media Award at its 2nd Annual Purim Holiday event, Esther’s Ball: A Midnight Masquerade.
The event celebrating the Purim holiday was held Feb. 25 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif.
Fusion Global’s mission is to unite Jews and gentiles in Messiah to ignite cultural transformation by joining media, marketplace and ministry. Fusion Global helps them understand and participate in Jewish holidays, fostering a deeper appreciation of Yeshua (Jesus) and His teachings.
Found in the book of Esther, the biblical story of Purim inspired the Jewish holiday, which celebrates the deliverance of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman, a wicked vizier who plotted to annihilate the Jews. Esther’s uncle, Mordechai, took courageous action to save the Jewish people and encourage his niece to finding her destiny.
In presenting the award to Baehr, Rabbi Jason Sobel, director of Fusion Global, said:
“Just as we commemorate Mordechai’s ability to impact cultural transformation in his day, this year we would like to take this opportunity to honor you as a modern day Mordechai for your significant impact on Hollywood and the Jewish Community over the last 30 years. Your work in the film industry instilling faith and values in media, transforming current culture from the inside out makes you a perfect recipient of Fusion Global’s Mordechai in Media Award.”
