ANNUAL BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE AND OAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING
Bridgetown, Barbados
May 31 – June 3, 2002
The Inter-American Economic Council [“Council”] is sponsoring the Annual Business Roundtable in Barbados, with participation in the exclusive OAS General Assembly Meeting. The Council expects to attract Business Leaders and Government Officials from throughout the Americas, including all of the Foreign Ministers in the Americas. Roundtable delegates will have direct interaction and networking opportunities with the Hemisphere’s Policy Makers. This Roundtable event is organized with the full support and cooperation of the Government of Barbados.
Annually, the OAS General Assembly Meeting convenes to discuss critical issues involving the Americas. They want to hear the views of the business delegation concerning the pace of the foreign investment, trade liberalization within the FTAA process, business development, tourism and economic diversification in the Caribbean and the Hemisphere’s economic recovery efforts in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.
Roundtable Goals:
The first Goal of this Business Roundtable is to promote tourism and expand business opportunities in the Caribbean and Latin America.
The second Goal will be to report immediately to the “Informal Dialogue of Foreign Ministers.” Based on the private-public discussions and outputs, the Council’s “Roundtable Report” will recommend strategies for achieving economic diversification in the Americas.
Roundtable Scenario:
The Roundtable will open with meetings with the theme of “Economic Diversification in the Caribbean and Latin America,” canvassing business trends, reviewing business practices and government policy issues. It is expected to provide new openings and opportunities for investment, education, trade and jobs growth. Delegates will have access to the OAS inaugural General Assembly Meeting and reception.
The Council will provide one-day of extensive briefings on doing business in tourism and growing financial services among other entrepreneurial opportunities. Speakers will be from Private and Government sectors, as well as Embassy officials. A schedule of events will be provided for each delegate. At each event, the delegates will be introduced as guests-of-honor.
