The Inter-American Economic Council's Fifth Winter Award Gala will recognize an individual who has done the most to promote public/private sector cooperation for economic growth and development in the countries of the Western Hemisphere. The recipient of this award is Mr. R. Allen Stanford, Chairman of the Stanford Financial Group. Accordingly, The Council is honoring Mr. Stanford for his sterling record of leadership at the helm of the Stanford Financial Group expanding economic and development opportunities throughout the Caribbean region, the United States and Latin America. The Council is impressed by the display of perseverance and creativity that has become the hallmark of Allen Stanford's lifework and vision for the future. The Stanford Financial Group including its Banking Operations have created employment opportunities for thousands of people. The Council admires Mr. Stanford's leadership in establishing Caribbean Star and Sun Airlines which have created critical air linkages for the Caribbean. His numerous philanthropic activities including the School of Excellence in Antigua and the Company's Underwriting of Scholarship Programs provide first-rate educational opportunities for the Caribbean's brightest youth. During his career he has consistently sought to create an environment where business and government can work together in meaningful ways for the betterment of society. The Council seeks to create a forum in which effective policy making is made by the public and private sectors working together. Mr. Stanford's life's work parallels the Council's Mission. There will also be a silent auction promoting the best of World Travel its mountains, its beaches, its cuisine, its hotel resorts and its people. We will also feature private tours of museums, embassy dinners and receptions, and other exciting surprises.
