As Chairman of the privately-held Houston-based Stanford Financial Group of companies, R. Allen Stanford, a 5th generation Texan, heads a global wealth management and financial services organization with offices across North America, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean. Stanford companies presently serve over 50,000 clients from 91 countries. His grandfather, Lodis, founded the first Stanford Company during the midst of the great depression in 1932, in the small central-Texas town of Mexia and his philosophy of hard work, clear vision and value for the client remains the cornerstone of Stanford's success today.
Mr. Stanford is a member of the Houston Board of Public Trusts and supports a number of cultural and sporting organizations in our city, including the Alley Theatre, Houston Grand Opera and the Houston Polo Club. Following his example, all Stanford companies strive to become active supporters of significant and meaningful causes in their own countries and communities.
For over 20 years, Mr. Stanford has been one of the leading investors in the Eastern Caribbean. He recently launched the $1.8 billion Stanford Caribbean Investment Fund earmarked for upscale development projects, primarily in the tourism sector. The Stanford Group of companies in Antigua supports a number of philanthropic ventures including HERO House International, a charitable organization providing support and hope for families in desperate need. Mr. Stanford is also an active member of Caribbean Latin American Action (CLAA), which promotes private-sector-led economic development in the Caribbean Basin and throughout the Hemisphere and is a significant supporter and contributor to the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) and the Inter-American Economic Council (IAEC).
Mr. Stanford earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Baylor University in 1974.
