Inter-American Economic Council Organizes Business Roundtable as Part of the OAS General Assembly Meeting in Barbados
May 3, 2002. The Inter-American Economic Council [“Council”] is sponsoring the Annual Business Roundtable in cooperation with the Government of Barbados, with participation in the exclusive OAS General Assembly Meeting. The Council has attracted Business Leaders and Government Officials from throughout the Americas. It will take place on June 1, 2002 at the Colony Club Hotel.
Topics to be covered during the Roundtable include: Economic Diversification in the Americas, Financial Services, Trade and Investment and Tourism. Confirmed speakers for the program include: Cesar Gaviria, Secretary General of the OAS, Ambassador Christopher Thomas, Council Chairman, Beatrice Rangel, Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Cisneros Group, Yolanda Suarez, Chief of Staff, Stanford Financial Group, Werner Rotach, Chairman, Horwath International, Ruth Espey-Romero, Head of International Affairs, Greenberg Traurig, Senator Philip Goddard, the Prime Minister of Barbados’ Envoy for Technology, Investment and Trade, Ambassador Michael King of Barbados, Ambassador Lionel Hurst of Antigua and Barbuda and Robin Rosenberg, Deputy Director of the North South Center.

The Inter-American Economic Council serves as the forum in which the private sector builds and develops strong ties to the policymakers throughout the Americas. The Council will institutionalize the shared common values and visions reached at the Business Roundtable which will be presented as part of the Council’s “Communiqué” to The OAS General Assembly in Bridgetown, Barbados. One significant outcome of the Roundtable will be the Council’s efforts to focus more attention on the need for investment in the Caribbean Region.
